Property Name/Number - This field is optional and may contain any combination of text and numbers. Valid entries might include: '12a', 'Dunroamin', 'Town Hall'. If this field is omitted, PublicAccess will return a list of all the properties in the selected street. If a Property Number is entered the search will return properties only when the number is combined with a street selection. A '%' sign may be used within this field to run a wildcard search. This character can be placed between or at either end of a text string to represent any number of characters.
If you are unsure of a spelling or the full name of a building, it is possible to run a wildcard search. For example a search such as "The%Hotel" would return all properties within the database whose name starts with 'The' and finishes with 'Hotel'. From the returned list, the required property may be selected.
Property Postcode - You may search by postcode by entering at least the postcode sector of a valid postcode (e.g. AB1 1 or EH12 1).
Street List - The street list provides a list of the streets in the Local Authority that you can search on. The list will dynamically narrow down your search by highlighting the appropriate streets as you enter the street name you are looking for in the Street Name field. The street list provided may contain either every street in the Local Authority, or a selection of street groupings where you select the appropriate group prior to entering the street details e.g. Select group 'G to I' to start entering 'High Street', since the first letter of the 'High Street', 'H' falls between 'G' and 'I'. A Local Authority will use street groupings when they have such a large number of streets that the initial viewing of the property search screen would be very slow if all streets were being presented in the street list together.
Search Tip - For a speedy return of results, you should enter as many property details as possible.Search Results - PublicAccess will return a list of properties appropriate to the search. When the required details have been entered into the search form, click the Submit button to run the search. From the search results, select the Click to view details button to view the specific property details. Alternatively, select the Click to view map button to move directly into a map view of the property. PulbicAccess will now open the Property Details section.
To locate the PublicAccess map, select the View Map option from the menu bar. The map view will open showing an overview map of the local area. To select a local authority feature (e.g. property) on the map, you must first zoom in on the map until map features representing properties and other local authority records are visible. Use the map tools to navigate around the map and zoom to the desired location. With the required map features viewable on screen, use the map identify tool to select the relevant type of features, selecting the type of features to be identified using the list provided.
For further details on using the map and map tools, refer to the Using the Map section in this help guide.
